On 23rd December, 1914, the 2nd Coldstream Guards of 4 Brigade, 2nd Division, left their billets in Bethune and marched to the trenches half a mile north-east of Festubert where they stayed until relieved on 2nd January, 1915, the day on which Samuel Trebilcoe was killed, possibly during the actual relief in the evening which was always a period of added danger. |
